The police department is also preparing for National Night Out, accepting vendors for the event.
Resident Questions Police Officer Employment Post-Lawsuit Settlement
Resident Holly Harmon raised concerns about a lawsuit settlement related to an alleged wrongful arrest by former officer Smith in February 2024. The incident involved an administrative error regarding a summons, leading to an arrest without a warrant. Charges were dismissed, the record expunged, and the borough agreed to a settlement. Harmon questioned why officer Smeltzer, who initiated the investigation, remains employed despite a 10-day suspension, and why officer Williamson did not receive a suspension. This was accompanied by the approval of payment application number one for the road program, totaling $1,049,879. The funds for this payment will be drawn from the general fund's unencumbered balance, which was confirmed to be included in the budget, rather than through a bond issue. A separate motion approved payment application number one for the Manor Parking lot and Senior Center parking lot pavement and drainage improvement project, totaling $292,884.75.
