Mesa City Council Cleans Up Code Regarding Public Safety Impact Fees
The City Council discussed the impact fees for Mesa City Code, specifically addressing the public safety impact fees. These fees, established under an old ordinance from 2012, were intended to cover debt for public safety buildings. As sufficient revenue has been collected to pay off this debt, the impact fees will cease. The city is in the process of selecting a consultant to evaluate and establish new impact fees that comply with current state legislation, ensuring that growth continues to pay for growth. The current action involves cleaning up the code by removing the now-obsolete fee numbers, as the impact fees themselves have already ended.
Mesa City Council Reviews FBI Partnership for Violent Crime Task Force
The Mesa City Council reviewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the FBI for the Safe Streets Task Force, aiming to combat violent crime. This MOU will allow for overtime reimbursement for investigations and provide additional vehicles and resources. While a similar partnership has existed with the FBI for over 13-14 years, specifically concerning Indian reservations, this new MOU expands the program's reach within the city of Mesa. The duration of the MOU is not specified, but either party can opt out with 30 days' notice. The initiative aims to support Mesa's gang unit detectives by providing resources for investigations into trafficking, murderers, and smugglers, with oversight from the Phoenix FBI field office.
