City Commission Approves Millage Rates and Establishes Assessment Rates for Fiscal Year 2026-2027
The City Commission adopted proposed millage rates for the fiscal year 2026-2027. The operating millage rate was set at 4.4207, unchanged from the previous year but 5.96% higher than the rolled-back rate. A key requirement for municipalities applying for implementation funding since 2024 is completing an FDP-approved vulnerability assessment. The study provides a roadmap for building long-term resilience, identifying vulnerable assets, prioritizing projects, and positioning the city for future funding opportunities. The process involves gathering existing data, conducting exposure and sensitivity analyses, and producing a vulnerability assessment report. The city is currently engaged in public outreach and stakeholder engagement (Task 7), with plans to incorporate feedback into the draft and final adaptation plans. The assessment considers rainfall-induced flooding, sea level rise, and tidal scenarios, projecting potential flood depths under various future conditions. Two priority focus areas, north and south, were identified due to concentrations of vulnerable infrastructure and recurring flooding. The next steps include developing an adaptation plan, evaluating strategies, prioritizing projects, and seeking funding through resilient Florida implementation grants. Coordination with the Broward County Local Mitigation Strategy is also recommended.
