Duval County School Board Renews PowerSchool Assessment Contract Amidst Data Breach Clarification
The School Board of Duval County approved the renewal of the PowerSchool Performance Matters contract for the 2026-2027 school year. This platform serves as the district's assessment system. During the discussion, it was clarified that the recent data breach mentioned by a public commenter was related to a different PowerSchool product (a student information management system), not the Performance Matters platform being renewed. The district confirmed that their primary student information management system, Focus, no longer stores Social Security numbers and that the Performance Matters platform is not affected by the breach. The cabinet expressed confidence in the security measures of the Performance Matters application.
Duval County School Board Continues Efforts to Place One-Mill Referendum on November Ballot
The Duval County School Board discussed the upcoming vote on a one-mill referendum, which primarily funds compensation for teachers and other employees, including essential salary supplements. The district is working with city council and attorneys to understand the procedural implications of this deferral and to determine a path forward. The goal is to allow voters to decide on the ballot in November. The district emphasized the importance of this millage for recruiting and retaining quality personnel in a competitive job market, noting that it is crucial for teachers and staff to make ends meet.

The project will add an additional lane to help alleviate traffic issues entering these schools. This project is slated for completion by August 1st, ensuring it will be in place before the start of the school year. This development is seen as a positive outcome of joint meetings and collaboration between the school board and the city council.
