Mayor to Attend Oklahoma Mayors Conference; D-Day Celebration Announced
Mayor, Jeff Martin, announced he will attend the Oklahoma Mayors Conference in Miami, Oklahoma, from June 17th to 19th, marking his first attendance at this conference. He also announced a D-Day celebration at the Territorial Museum on June 6th, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the event with speakers and presentations.
Temporary Fireworks Permit Approved for June 15th '250th Birthday Party for America' Event
The council approved Ordinance Number 3436, a temporary amendment to Ordinance Number 3311, to allow a fireworks display on June 15th, 2026, for the '250th Birthday Party for America' event. This is separate from the standard July 4th festivities and applies only to this specific event at Cottonwood Flats, which will include music, food, and a 10-minute fireworks display. The council also declared an emergency to enact this ordinance.
Special Use Permit Granted for Accessory Building Size Exemption
A special use permit request for an accessory building size limitation exemption was unanimously approved. The subject property is 1.1 acres, falling just below the 1.5-acre threshold for unlimited accessory structure size by right. This permit allows for a larger accessory building (1500 sq ft) that aligns with neighboring properties on larger lots, preventing unnecessary costs for the property owner.
City Budget Season Begins; $1.4 Million Secured for Water and Sewer Projects
The City Manager reported that budget season is underway, with revenue estimating and projections scheduled for the following week. Department heads are to submit proposals by the end of June, with special workshops planned for July and August. Additionally, the city secured approximately $1.4 million in grant funding for water and sewer projects, thanks to collaborative efforts with Senator Chuck Hall and Representative Duel. A presentation for this funding is scheduled.
Airport Taxiway Project Nears Completion; Post Office Dedication Honored
The City Manager provided updates on various community projects. The taxiway realignment project at the airport is nearing completion, ahead of schedule and under budget. The city also celebrated the post office dedication in honor of Oscar J. Upham, which was well-attended and successful. Discussions are also underway for potentially moving the July fireworks display to the Saturday prior to the 4th of July in future years.
