The Freeport Fire Department is updating its ambulance service charges, increasing resident rates from $1,200 to $2,000 and non-resident rates from $1,700 to $2,500. The mileage rate will also increase from $14 to $20 per loaded mile. This ordinance aims to align fees with operational costs and Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement rates, which have not kept pace with expenses. Additionally, a new ordinance will charge facilities a flat fee of $150 for lift assists, replacing the previous half-hourly rate, to cover costs when responding to nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or other ambulance services. The fire department also plans to purchase new ZO cardiac monitors for $46,600, as current units are aging and costly to repair.
Freeport Considers Enterprise Zone Expansion for Autosmart and Village of Lena, Approves Driveway Variance
The city council is considering expanding the Northwest Illinois Enterprise Zone to include additional territory for Autosmart Inc. and for the Village of Lena. For Autosmart, a 4.2-acre parcel adjacent to their current location will be added to support showroom expansion and enhance sales tax revenue. For Lena, three underdeveloped parcels zoned residential, totaling over 112 acres, will be added to spur residential development through property tax abatement and sales tax exemptions on building materials. Additionally, a variance was approved for a driveway at 708 West Elk Street to be closer than 2 feet to the lot line to allow access to a legal, non-conforming garage.
