Coina Valley Unified School District Board Meeting Addresses Student Achievements, Policy Changes, and Operational Approvals
The Coina Valley Unified School District Board of Education meeting convened, including standard agenda items such as adoption of the agenda and public comments. The board adjourned to a closed session and reconvened to open session. The meeting featured a pledge of allegiance led by students Emma Thomas and Haron Feld. Several students were recognized for their achievements, including Emma Thomas for character of the month and Haron Feld for academic and athletic excellence. The board approved a workers' compensation settlement agreement. Outgoing and incoming student board members were recognized, along with outstanding high school clubs and senior scholars. The new board policy 5131.8 regarding mobile communication devices was presented for first reading, aiming to limit smartphone use during the school day. The SOS for Student Achievement initiative by the California Schoolboards Association was discussed. The board approved various resolutions and actions, including support for Proposition 55, a restructured daycare tuition schedule, the 2026-2027 meeting schedule, job descriptions, union affiliations, graduation requirements, student expulsion cases, construction cost procedures, and a roof improvement bid for Northview High School. The board also approved the issuance of refunding bonds and a multi-school agreement for CIF athletic participation between Coina Valley Learning Options Academy and South Hills High School. New administrators, Dr. Sha Van Aen and Dr. Angela Palmieri, were introduced. Retirees were honored for their years of service. The meeting concluded with adjournment.
