Peter Donahoe Appointed Selectman's Representative to Conservation Commission
The Board of Selectmen appointed Peter Donahoe as the Selectman's Representative to the Conservation Commission. The board agreed on the importance of having a selectman's representative on the commission and moved to appoint Mr. Donahoe, who had expressed interest.
Police Cruiser Lost in Accident to be Replaced Using Revolving Fund
Chief Maddie requested funds from the commercial duty revolving fund to replace a totaled 2023 Dodge Charger police cruiser. The cruiser was destroyed in an accident on July 17th due to hydroplaning on a puddle of suspected leachate or sludge on the bridge. The insurance payout is $32,000 after the deductible, with an additional $9,000 for equipment replacement, leaving a shortfall of approximately $21,000 for a new Ford cruiser costing around $50,000 plus $12,000 for equipment. The motion to allocate $23,000 from the fund passed unanimously, allowing for the replacement of the cruiser and preventing the loss of insurance money. The commercial duty fund, accumulated over 15 years from detail work fees, has approximately $79,789 available.
Select Board Enters Non-Public Session; Public Works and Emergency Management Collaboration Highlighted
The Board of Selectmen moved into non-public session under RSA 91-A:3, II (c) for confidential, commercial, and financial matters. John, a selectman, made a brief statement thanking Linda Burns and Chief Remington for their work with FEMA, Homeland Security, the National Weather Service, and the Army Corps of Engineers regarding flood and river signs posted at local parks. This inter-agency effort aimed to provide a first-hand look at the Saco River.
Health Officer and Assistant Health Officer Reappointed
The Board of Selectmen unanimously reappointed Jeremy Gibbs as Health Officer and James Hounsell as Assistant Health Officer. Both individuals were seeking reappointment for their duties.
Conservation Commission Updates on Trail Projects, Permit Reviews, and Land Management
The Conservation Commission provided an update on its activities, including managing town-owned lands and commenting on state permits. Recent successes include the well-functioning dog waste program in Whitaker Woods and the completion of an all-season trail on Black Cap, a collaborative project with the state and The Nature Conservancy. The commission is assigning parcels to members for better oversight and is working with town staff to improve the efficiency of the state permit application process, which is often complex and time-consuming. A recent review of an alteration of terrain permit for the Ridgeline development was noted, highlighting the need for better communication and a more streamlined review process.
