Zoning Committee Approves Landmark Designation, Affordable Housing Projects, and Mixed-Use Developments
The committee reviewed and approved several zoning map amendments and ordinances. Notably, the Ludlow Typograph Company Building was designated as a Chicago Landmark. A historical landmark fee waiver was also approved. A wrecking permit for a partial demolition of a commercial building in the Fulton Randolph Market Landmark District was approved as part of a larger mixed-use development. Various large sign permits were also passed. Several zoning changes were approved for affordable housing projects in North Lawndale, including the initial phase of the 'Reclaiming Chicago' program. Additionally, ordinances related to parks and open space in Logan Square, mixed-use developments in various wards, and updates to zoning for commercial and residential districts were passed. A significant project involving the expansion of the Greater Chicago Food Depository for a new meal preparation facility was approved, along with a zoning amendment for the Mars Wrigley pilot plant expansion. Finally, multiple zoning changes for Metra station renovations and residential developments were passed.
