Lake and Lathrop Development Case Progresses; July Court Date Set
An update on the Lake and Lathrop Mixed-Use Development case was provided, with the next court date scheduled for July 9th, where a briefing schedule and trial date are expected to be established. The judge has directed all parties to cease delay tactics and comply with filings. No decisions regarding the property, including demolition or sale, can be made until the matter is resolved. The village is not a direct party but is represented due to its stake in the resolution.
Commissioners Explore Virtual Walkthroughs for Area Familiarization
Commissioners discussed the idea of a virtual walkthrough using a large monitor to display Google Earth or similar imagery, allowing them to explore various areas of the village, particularly business districts like Madison Street and North Avenue. This would help commissioners familiarize themselves with properties, identify opportunities, and understand current conditions, aiding in discussions about development and revitalization.
Madison Street Project Application Under Review; Public Hearing Planned
The application for the Madison Street Project was received approximately two weeks ago and is currently under review by village staff to ensure compliance with code standards. Staff has met with the developer to discuss revisions, including architectural changes to break up the building's facade and a potential curb cut-in on Ashland Avenue for lobby access. A public hearing before the Development Review Board (DRB) is anticipated for July or August, with the application, traffic study, and school impact studies to be made public prior to the hearing.
River Forest Business Bash Success and Future Networking Events Highlighted
The Chamber of Commerce organized the second annual River Forest Business Bash on Memorial Day, featuring a business fair with 27 businesses and organizations, including 12 from River Forest. The event aimed to connect local businesses with the community and received positive feedback, with an estimated attendance of 2,000 to 2,500 people. The Chamber also plans to reactivate quarterly business networking events to foster connections among local entrepreneurs.
Redevelopment Planned for Madison Street Strip Mall
The owner of the strip mall at 7756 Madison Street, who also owns the convenience store 'Puffs,' purchased the property last year and has submitted an application to reconfigure the space. This application requires approval from the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA). While the property currently has no 'for rent' signs as plans are in the planning phase, the owner has reportedly good plans for redevelopment and may utilize the village's facade grant program.
