Village Board Approves Revised Parks and Recreation Ordinance
The village board considered and approved Ordinance 26-08, which repeals and replaces Chapter 42 of the village municipal code regarding parks and recreation. The ordinance was amended during discussion to remove the specific reference to 'village park' in certain sections to avoid confusion, clarifying that pet restrictions apply to specific areas within parks rather than the entire park if pets are otherwise allowed. This amendment ensures clarity on where pets are prohibited, such as within buildings and shelters, to maintain cleanliness and prevent issues with children. The ordinance aims to update park regulations, including those concerning alcohol use and grilling, and incorporates the newly established 10 Mile Park into the code.
Tashonda Edelin Appointed to Village Trustee Position
The village board interviewed five candidates for a vacant village trustee position. The process involved each candidate giving a 15-minute presentation (3 minutes for summary, 10 minutes for Q&A, 2 minutes for closing remarks). After initial interviews, the board voted on their top two candidates to narrow the field. Tashonda Edelin received five votes, Chris Lobach received three votes, Timothy Ricketts received two votes, and Santaria Bowie and Jartan Davis received zero votes. Based on these votes, Tashonda Edelin and Chris Lobach were identified as the top two candidates. The board then moved to appoint Tashonda Edelin as the village trustee for a term expiring in April 2027, which was approved by a roll call vote.
