Planning and Zoning Commission Denies Specific Use Permit for Massage Salon

The Planning and Zoning Commission considered a public hearing for a Specific Use Permit (SUP) request for a massage salon at 1908 Central Drive. The property, legally described as First State Edition Lot C, was rezoned from heavy commercial to heavy commercial with a specific use permit for a massage salon. The suite in question had been used as a massage law in the past but lacked a record of a SUP, and its non-conforming use status was lost after being vacant for over three months. The applicant proposed no exterior changes to the existing approximately 6,000 square foot building, which predominantly houses professional offices. Staff noted that the proposed use does not align with the goals of the place-focused commercial comprehensive plan for the area. Public notice was provided to nine property owners within 200 feet, with no responses received. A previous similar SUP request on Brown Trail was denied by the City Council. Ultimately, the commission voted to deny the SUP request.
