City Upgrades Text Alert System for Emergency Notifications
Councilmember Moody recommended upgrading the city's communication system, TextMyGov, to include emergency public alerts and emergency weather notifications to supplement the existing siren system. The upgrade will cost an additional $800 and will allow the city to send out critical public safety notifications via text message, coordinated with the National Weather Service for weather alerts and enabling the police and fire departments to issue alerts for other emergencies. The motion to approve the expenditure passed.
