Planning Commission Recommends Approval for Additional Signage at Orchard Path Senior Living Facility
The Planning Commission considered a proposed text amendment to PD703, specifically in Zone 6, to allow for an additional ground sign for the Orchard Path Senior Living Facility. This amendment is necessitated by a new, separate entrance and address for the facility's recent phase three addition, which requires improved wayfinding for residents, guests, vendors, and emergency services. Staff recommended approval of the amendment with specific conditions, including that the property be a continuum of care retirement community, a corner lot, have no building signs, and that the primary building have two or more separate street addresses served by the signs. The commission moved to recommend approval of the ordinance.
Apple Valley Community Development Director Announces Upcoming Data Center Moratorium and Study
Tim Bennetti, Community Development Director, provided updates on upcoming meetings and initiatives. A sketch plan review for a development at 153rd and Galaxy is scheduled for July 15th, where the commission will provide feedback. A significant upcoming item is a proposed moratorium on data centers, to be presented at the City Council meeting on July 9th. This moratorium, which will allow for a study on data centers, is being adopted by several surrounding communities. The study is expected to take at least a year, with the potential to extend to 18 months, to develop new regulations or standards for data centers. The City Council may not require Planning Commission review for this specific ordinance due to state statute.
