The original proposal aimed to build two or three homes on the site, but township staff and neighbors had concerns regarding stormwater management. The settlement protects the township's stormwater ordinance and natural resources, limiting development to the existing house plus one additional home. The property will still undergo a full land development review.
Township Considering Zoning for Data Centers
During public comment, a resident inquired about the township's consideration of zoning regulations for data centers, especially in light of potential zoning updates. Mr. Trub confirmed that data centers are part of the 'new uses' being considered in the zoning ordinance amendments (Ordinance 4-269) to ensure the township is prepared, even though no pending applications exist. He noted that while a use cannot be outlawed, reasonable regulations can be implemented.
Township Approves TD Bank Financing for New Fire Truck
The board considered and approved Resolution 1625, an agreement between Whitpain Township and TD Bank for financing a 2026 Pierce Impel heavy-duty rescue engine. The new fire truck, currently under construction and anticipated for delivery in late August, costs just under $1.1 million. The township secured a bank loan through an RFQ process, receiving four bids. TD Bank offered the lowest bid, providing financing for approximately $137,000 over 10 years, which was $4,600 less than the second-lowest bid. This financing arrangement was deemed the most cost-effective option.
Fly Advanced LLC Granted One-Year Extension for Flight School Building Plan
The Board of Supervisors considered a request from Fly Advanced LLC for a one-year extension to waive the requirement of preparing a land development plan for the installation of temporary modular buildings to house a flight school at Wings Field. The company cited team turnover as the reason for needing more time to prepare a formal land development plan, which is expected to involve permanent structures. The staff recommended approval of the extension, and the board voted to grant it.
