Washington Township Adopts Amended Tree Ordinance Following Public Feedback

The council discussed and adopted Ordinance 22-20226, which amends Chapter 254 of the Washington Code concerning trees. The ordinance was opened for public comment, during which Vicki provided feedback on behalf of the environmental commission. She noted that the proposed changes were procedural and beneficial for well-documented procedures, which is good for residents. However, she raised a concern that the environmental commission, being volunteer-based, might lack the resources to provide the same level of detailed review as professional staff, particularly without an arborist or environmental engineer. Despite this concern, she expressed support for the ordinance due to its procedural clarity. The council then moved to adopt the ordinance.
