Maddie Landrau Appointed to Springfield Water and Sewer Commission
The Springfield City Council subcommittee held a meeting to consider the appointment of Maddie Landrau to the Water and Sewer Commission. Following introductions and statements from City Councillor Jerry Martin, Josh Mello, and Attorney Wilson, Maddie Landrau provided an overview of her professional background as a Community Partnership Manager at MassMutual, focusing on her experience with the MassMutual Foundation's Springfield Grant Making portfolio. She expressed her motivation for serving on the commission, emphasizing the importance of community education regarding the water and sewer infrastructure and mission. Councillor Perez and Councillor Davila also joined the meeting. A key point of discussion was the recent increases in water rates, with Councillor Hurst questioning Landrau on her approach to addressing resident concerns about rising utility costs. Landrau stated her intention to first understand the reasons for the increases and to serve as a vehicle for educating the community. It was clarified that Landrau would be replacing Vanessa Otero on the commission. The subcommittee ultimately voted to approve the recommendation for Maddie Landrau's appointment, with Councilman D'Avila making the motion and Councilman Martin seconding it. The motion passed with all in favor.
