Annual Fishing Derby Encourages Youth Participation and Community Engagement

The Worester County Parks and Recreck Department hosted their 5th annual fishing derby at Pog City's New Town Park on Saturday, May 16th. The event, designed to encourage children under 15 to engage in fishing and outdoor activities, provided free participation, including bait and poles for those who needed them. Trophies were awarded for various categories such as the biggest fish, most fish caught, smallest fish, and the 'avid fisherman' award for effort and enthusiasm. This year saw a record turnout of 75 children. For the following year, the department plans to stock the pond with more fish, increase giveaways, and collaborate with more local businesses. The event aims to bring the community together, encourage children to disconnect from devices, and enjoy nature.
