Township Authorizes Purchase of Replacement Public Works Truck
The Board of Supervisors authorized the purchase of a replacement pickup truck for the Public Works Department and the decommissioning of the 2006 Ford F-150. The F-150's transmission failed, and repair costs were deemed prohibitive, exceeding the truck's value. The township has been temporarily using a water authority truck. As the replacement was not budgeted for 2026, the manager requested authorization to purchase a used truck not to exceed $35,000. The selected truck will primarily be used by the mechanic and is expected to have a lifespan of approximately 8-10 more years.
Data Center Ordinance Draft Amended with Public Engagement Requirements, Moves to Agency Review
The Board of Supervisors reviewed a draft ordinance (Ordinance 313) to regulate data center uses. They discussed proposed amendments, including requiring pre- and post-construction sound studies, adjusting construction hours, and implementing detailed emergency response plans. Supervisor Doyle proposed adding provisions for public engagement, such as a mandatory public meeting before the conditional use discussion and a project website for transparency. The board voted to send the draft ordinance, incorporating these proposed changes, to the required agencies for review to commence the municipal planning commission hearing and adoption process.
Township Approves Participation in Bucks Beautiful Grant Program for Park Enhancements
Bucks Beautiful Community Grant Program and Replant Bucks initiative were discussed. The program offers a 50/50 matching grant up to $5,000 for tree planting and beautification projects in public areas, allowing for in-kind labor and equipment to count towards the township's match. The township plans to initiate the program at Great Blue Heron Park, planting 17 trees along the main walking trail and as understory trees. These trees are intended to provide filtered shade and create a comfortable walking experience. Expansion to Veterans Park in 2027 is also being considered. The board authorized the township manager to sign the grant application.
Township Acknowledges Borough Concerns on Data Centers, Shares Ordinance Information
Supervisor Kathy Doyle noted that Richland Town Borough submitted a letter expressing concerns about data centers and requested consideration. The Board of Supervisors confirmed that their draft ordinance for data centers addresses these concerns and that ordinance information will be shared with Richland Town Borough as part of the Quakertown Area Planning Committee. The board also acknowledged the work of the solicitor, Link Trauger, in researching the data center ordinance, covering aspects like wastewater, environmental impacts, and zoning.
First Payment Approved for Whitchurch Township Pickleball Court Improvements
The Board of Supervisors approved payment application number one to Top Eight Court LLC for the Whitchurch Township pickleball court improvements. Gilmore and Associates recommended payment in the amount of $2,209,836.80.
