Two New Members Appointed to Ward 2 Neighborhood Advisory Board
The council approved the appointment of Olivia Gil Gua and Vanessa Vel to two open positions on the Ward 2 Neighborhood Advisory Board. Councilmember Der noted that another candidate, Patricia Crawford, who resides in Ward 6, was encouraged to reapply for future openings in her ward due to her strong qualifications.
South Reno Property Rezoned to Parks, Open Space, and Neighborhood Commercial
The City Council approved a zoning map amendment for a 161-acre property in South Reno. The northern parcel will retain its industrial zoning, while the southern parcel will be rezoned to parks, greenways, open space, and neighborhood commercial. Reno City Council Approves Annexation of 116-Acre South Reno Property
The City Council approved the annexation of a 116.43-acre parcel into the city of Reno. This annexation is a logical extension of city boundaries, adjacent to existing city limits, and within the city's sphere of influence. The proposed master plan amendment designates the northern portion for industrial use and the southern parcel for parks, greenways, open space, and suburban mixed-use. The zoning map amendment proposes maintaining industrial zoning on the northern parcel and rezoning the southern parcel to parks, greenways, open space, and neighborhood commercial. Concerns were raised regarding fire service response times (estimated at 8 minutes from Station 12) and the potential impact of development on rural preservation neighborhoods, but the council found the annexation consistent with master plan goals and approved it.
