Weekend Events Include Lipton Cup Regatta, Historical Reenactment, and Beach Yoga
The Squantum Yacht Club is presenting the Lipton Cup Regatta this Saturday and Sunday, with sailing races viewable from Quincy Shore Drive. Additionally, the Dorothy Quincy Homestead will host reenactors from Colonel Bailey's 2nd Massachusetts Regiment on Saturday, featuring drills, music, and a living history demonstration, along with children's activities and tours. Beach Yoga, a free class by Namaste Sober, will be held on Wollaston Beach on Saturday morning.
Two Quincy Beaches Remain Unsafe for Swimming Due to High Bacteria Levels
Mound Street Beach and Nickerson Beach in Quincy remain posted as unsafe for swimming due to high bacteria levels. The Quincy Health Department removed warnings at Marymount Beach and is conducting further water testing there. All other city beaches and Wollaston Beach have tested safe for swimming this week.
Jury Selection Concludes for Trial of Mother Accused of Killing Children; Postpartum Psychosis Defense Expected
Jury selection is nearing completion for the trial of Lindsey Clancy, accused of strangling her three children. Seventeen of the required 18 jurors were selected, with two dropping out and three new ones added, bringing the total to 18. Opening statements are expected Monday. An attorney for Lindsey's ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, requested media restrictions on images of the deceased children and related evidence, which the defense supported. Patrick Clancy is anticipated to be the first witness. The trial is expected to delve into postpartum psychosis, a rare condition affecting a small percentage of women after childbirth. Both the defense and Patrick Clancy assert Lindsey was not responsible due to her condition, while prosecutors argue the killings were intentional and premeditated.
68th Annual Veterans Fishing Expo Offers Camaraderie and Resources to New England Veterans
The Harvey Saltwater Fishing Club hosted its 68th annual Veterans Fishing Expo at the Quincy Yacht Club, providing a day of fishing and camaraderie for hundreds of veterans from New England, many of whom are disabled. The event included a luncheon and was supported by local businesses and a June fundraiser. This expo also provided veterans with information on available benefits and services. Norfolk County Sheriff Pat McDermott sponsored this year's seventh annual expo, which featured information for veterans, first responders, and their families, along with live music, food, a job fair, and Parkinson's disease information. Additional sponsors included the Veterans Voice Network, Quincy College, the City of Quincy, the Boston VA, the American Red Cross, and local businesses.
Free Summer Lunch Program Available for Quincy Youth Under 18
Free lunches are being provided for Quincy residents aged 18 and under throughout the summer at several locations: Parker Elementary School, Lincoln Hancock School, Ward 2 Community Center, Snug Harbor Elementary School, and Montclair Elementary School. Meals are available weekdays from 11 AM to 1 PM until August 21st and must be consumed on-site.
