Annexation Study Contract Awarded, No Coweta County Annexation Planned
The City Council awarded a contract to KB to conduct an annexation study. This study will examine the city's borders and provide economic analyses and recommendations for potential annexations. The report indicated no planned annexation into Coweta County and confirmed that no data center or TDK connection is in the works. The primary focus areas for potential annexation are on the east and south sides of Peachtree City, with further discussions planned to determine the best course of action for the city.
City Council Discusses Mandatory Curbside Trash Hauling Program
Following discussions from a January retreat, the City Council held an in-depth discussion on curbside trash hauling. Currently, residents contract privately, but over 1,000 households have no contract, leading to trash being disposed of in public bins. A proposed model involves a single, mandatory city program with one designated hauler for all residences. While no decision was made, the council listened to citizen concerns and will continue these conversations.
2027 Budget Public Hearing Held; Millage Rate to Remain Stable
A public hearing was held on the proposed 2027 budget, which totals $60.779 million, a slight increase from the previous year. The millage rate will remain unchanged at 5.84 mils. The budget prioritizes public safety, allocating 47% of funds to this area, and a total of 74% to police, fire, public works, and recreation, referred to as the 'big four' services. The City Council intends to adopt the budget on August 20th, and feedback from citizens is welcomed until then.
