New Hope Police Department Focuses on Community Engagement and Traffic Safety
Officer Lee Larson and Ashley, Hennepin County Joint Police Partnership Liaison, attended the PLISET (Professional Law Enforcement Community Engagement Training) conference in Dallas. Officer Anthony Larson demonstrated proactive traffic enforcement and DWI investigation skills during a late-night traffic stop, observing a vehicle traveling at 92 mph in a 60 mph zone and subsequently arresting the driver for DWI after detecting impairment and administering SFSTs. This action is highlighted as reinforcing the department's commitment to traffic safety.
City Enhances Communication Efforts with Seasonal Support
The city is actively communicating upcoming events and information through multiple channels, including its website (newhopemn.gov), CCX, the Sun Post, printed publications, and social media (Facebook). To manage the increased communication needs during busy periods, the city has rehired Lily Jacobs as a seasonal communications employee. Events mentioned include Music in the Park, the Farmers Market, Movie in the Parks, Tot Time, Young Mutters, and Night to Unite.
Public Hearing Scheduled for Neglected 42nd Avenue Property
The city council will hold a public hearing on June 22nd to consider revoking the site plan review for a grocery store and the conditional use permit for an adult daycare at the former Gill Brothers funeral home property on 42nd Avenue. The property has been neglected and has not seen substantial development since its original approval. The city aims to find an optimal use for the property.
Scattered Site Housing Projects Progressing in New Hope
Updates on scattered site housing projects include 3865 Jordan Avenue, where stormwater structures have been installed and demolition/site prep is complete. The lot sale to Great Buy Homes is scheduled for mid-June (around June 15th). At 4913 Yukon Avenue North, a purchase agreement with Habitat for Humanity has been signed, with closing by June 30th. Construction is slated for late summer 2026, with completion and sale expected by June 2027.
New Hires and Strong Application Numbers Highlight City Staffing Updates
The city is welcoming Police Officer Cade Willey and Maintenance Worker Jim Molner, who start on June 15th. Drake Daniels was hired as a police officer and started last week. The city has also posted a position for Community Service Officers, receiving 42 applications, which is considered strong interest.
