Decarbonization Goal Analysis and Sustainability Action Plan Update Presented

The Sustainability and Resiliency Division presented an analysis of the city's decarbonization goals, evaluating various scenarios and the impact of local and regional actions. The analysis informed the development of a draft list of actions for the city's five-year decarbonization plan and assessed the feasibility of accelerating the 2045 decarbonization goal. Key findings indicated that while regional and state policies contribute significantly to emission reductions, local actions are crucial for accelerating progress and meeting goals. Building electrification and transportation, particularly EV charging infrastructure, were highlighted as areas with significant potential for local impact. The presentation also discussed the dynamic nature of the model, allowing for adjustments based on changing policies and market trends. The committee was also updated on the progress of the Sustainability Action Plan (SAP), noting that 91% of its actions are completed or ongoing, with proposed targeted investments from the Sustainability Fund for heat pump water heater rebates, EV charging rebates for multifamily housing, community shuttle continuation, EV charging infrastructure for the city fleet, and solar/battery storage projects at city facilities. Proposed investments total approximately $2.06 million to $2.56 million.
