The council also recognized the vital public service of EMS during Emergency Medical Services Week, specifically highlighting their extraordinary efforts during a significant tanker fire on 287 that resulted in fatalities and injuries, and caused major traffic disruptions through Matouchin. The actions of the police department in attempting a rescue and the volunteer fire department in defending the town from spreading flames were also commended.
