Tennis Center Lease Extended, Rent Increased for Facility Upgrades
The city council is being asked to authorize the amendment of a commercial lease agreement for the tennis center located at Monroe Boulevard and Reynolds Channel. The operator is seeking to make significant investments in the facility, including converting one bubble into a multi-sport complex, resurfacing courts, installing solar panels, and upgrading the HVAC system and clubhouse. To secure financing for these improvements, the operator requires an extension of the current lease. The proposal includes renaming the facility to Long Beach Sports Center, extending the lease for 10 years with an additional 10-year mutual option, and implementing a nearly 22% increase in rent for the first year, with subsequent 3% annual increases. The operator, Naim Sadiki, has a history of cooperation and fulfilling payment obligations.
Lifeguard Division to Receive New ATVs Funded by Carbona Family Donation
The city council is being asked to approve the purchase of four ATVs for the lifeguard division. These vehicles are needed to replace aging equipment, with some units dating back to 2013 and 2016, and are beyond their service life. The new ATVs will be funded by a donation from the Carbona family, specifically designated for beach patrol needs. The council also discussed the challenges of vehicle maintenance due to saltwater exposure and potential storage solutions. The older ATVs will be auctioned off.
Public Hearings Scheduled for Sign Exemptions, Food Service Refuse, and Capital Project Financing
The city is moving forward with public hearings for three proposed ordinances. The first ordinance concerns amendments to the code of ordinances related to resign exemptions. The second ordinance addresses food service refuge requirements. The third ordinance authorizes financing for various capital projects, with an estimated total cost of $26,566,000, including the appropriation of funds and authorization for issuing bonds up to that amount. All three ordinances are for publication only at this stage, with public hearings scheduled for August 4th at 7 p.m.
City Contracts with Local Hardware Stores for Emergency Supplies
