City Council Approves Consent Agenda with Infrastructure Improvements
The City Council approved the consent agenda, which included several maintenance and improvement projects. Notably, the asphalt in the bus area, which had been causing damage and issues for special education student transport, will be fully repaved for greater stability. Additionally, the elevator shaft at the high school, which required custom modification due to its non-standard size, will be modernized. The approval of these projects was funded by surplus funds.
District Provides Update on Blue Bonnet Curriculum Implementation and Support
The district provided an update on the implementation of the Blue Bonnet curriculum, emphasizing its role in rigorous, grade-level instruction. The district's implementation strategy, which began in October with committee consensus and training in December/January, is ahead of the typical June/July acquisition schedule for other districts. The program includes ongoing professional development, a guiding coalition of staff, and feedback mechanisms. Financial support for implementation includes a three-year LIFT grant, which funds job-embedded professional development, district and campus coaches, and one-time stipends for teachers ($500 for content teachers, $1000 for K-2 self-contained teachers). The district aims to equip trustees with information to address constituent questions, particularly regarding teacher autonomy, curriculum scripting, and support for diverse learners.
