Glen Carbon Approves Purchase of New Tractor and Funding for Museum Painting Project
The Village Board of Trustees approved Resolution 2026-57 authorizing the purchase of a new Kubota tractor for the Public Works Department. This purchase will be funded by the 2026 Madison County Park Enhancement Program grant. The tractor is not part of the original 2026 budget but was added due to excess grant funding. The current 2005 John Deere tractor will be traded in. The low bid for the new tractor was $45,600 from Kubota, with a final balance of $27,890 after trade-in and allowances. Additionally, Resolution 2026-55 was approved, authorizing a service contract with Deep Clean and Maintenance LLC for painting the Land Department Heritage Museum, not to exceed $19,700. This contractor was the lower bidder and will follow EPA guidelines for lead-safe renovation. A meeting is scheduled to discuss timelines and artifact relocation.
Resident Expresses Support for Shared Use Path and Inter-Community Connectivity
During the public comment period, resident Andrew Steer expressed excitement about progress on the shared use path and coordination efforts with Edwardsville. He highlighted the importance of improving connectivity, particularly from Ginger Creek down to Route 157, and working with Edwardsville to enhance coordination between the two communities. Steer thanked the board for their work and dedication to Glen Carbon.
Glen Carbon Approves Water Tank Maintenance Upgrade and Future Water Rate Increases
The Village Board of Trustees approved Resolution 2026-61, authorizing an addendum to the water tank maintenance contract with USG Water Solutions. This addendum includes the installation of a mixer in Tower Number One at a cost of $39,531, to be spread over three years, followed by an annual maintenance fee of $3,786. The mixer is intended to minimize water stratification, particularly during warmer months. The board also approved Ordinance 2026-19, which enacts a 12% annual increase for both water service and usage charges, effective January 1, 2027, and a subsequent 12% increase on January 1, 2028. These increases are necessary to fund the construction of a new water treatment plant and maintain water fund operations.
Glen Carbon Police Department Recognizes Retirements, Awards Meritorious Service, and Approves Promotions
The Village Board of Trustees acknowledged the retirement of Lieutenant Ned Miller after 27 years of service and presented him with a certificate of recognition from the Illinois Senate. Investigator Kevin Bauer received a Meritorious Service Award for his superior performance as a task force officer with the DEA, during which he worked on numerous large-scale drug conspiracies and seized over $650,000. The board also approved promotions for Sergeant Greg Boyer to Patrol Lieutenant and Leon Robinson to Sergeant of the Patrol Department, highlighting their extensive experience and contributions to the Glen Carbon Police Department.
