Swasey Park Fence Repairs Underway, Sidewalk Improvements Considered, and Sewer Project Nears Completion
Discussion centered on the fence along the river and other sections of Swasey Park, including galvanized fencing. Estimates for replacement and repair are ongoing, with another meeting scheduled for Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. to conclude the estimate process. The fence along the river is in significant disrepair, leaning towards the river and making access difficult, necessitating repairs for safety and to improve contractor access for future work. There was consideration about adjusting the fence's position due to erosion during repairs, but the decision was to keep it in its current location and straighten posts. Future plans may include addressing the sidewalk, potentially widening it for easier two-way pedestrian traffic and to allow two people to walk side-by-side, as the current sidewalk is only 3 feet wide. The coastal resiliency project is on hold as a placeholder, with a closing email for the grant having been sent out. The sewer project is mostly complete, but tire marks need to be fixed, likely not before the fall, impacting the beer and chili fest. The town is also addressing water restrictions. Some cinder blocks might need repointing due to earthquake movement.

Mark Dimsdale reported on the donation of lumber from 'excellent lumber' for a bench repair, specifically for a breast cancer awareness theme, located across from Saugus Hill. He also raised a concern about an overgrown branch of an autumn olive shrub on Water Street, near the D'Agostino's house and a fire hydrant, which is encroaching into the road and poses a hazard to pedestrians. He offered to trim it himself if permitted, but noted other vegetation like bittersweet and cedars are also growing into power lines. The trustees acknowledged the issue and will address it. Separately, a gentleman named Tom and his lady friend planted sunflower and petunia seeds near a stump on the other side of Newfield Road, which was appreciated for adding beauty and serving as a welcoming sign. Dimsdale also mentioned touching up the fascia board on the block building with green paint donated by Mark, and noted a cinder block may need repointing due to potential earthquake movement.
