The proposed Motorola APX N70 system offers advanced features beyond voice communication, including LTE broadband connectivity, wireless lapel mics that double as body cams, voice command translation (VKI), real-time GPS tracking, and an automatic emergency alert system if a radio is inactive. This system is estimated to last 15 years. The total cost is $919,000, financed over five years with no interest, and includes other equipment. Concerns were raised about the decision to not permanently mount radios in patrol vehicles due to leasing arrangements with Enterprise, leading to a directive for the city manager to investigate the cost of equipping patrol cars with radios.
Council Addresses Need for Cooling Stations Amidst Extreme Heat; Approves Police Radio Upgrade

A motion was made to approve the purchase of new police radios, and a separate directive was given to investigate the cost of equipping patrol cars with hard radios.
