Lot Line Adjustment Approved for Cornwallis Drive Properties

A lot line change for two existing parcels at 949 and 951 Cornwallis Drive was approved. The purpose of this change is to make the lots conform to the zoning district's requirements regarding area and bulk. One existing house will be kept, while the other will be demolished. A future improvement plan was presented, showing a potential future configuration of the lot, including storm management. The approval is subject to outstanding issues being addressed to the satisfaction of the township engineer.

Enhanced Process for Grass and Vegetation Complaints

The township is working to improve its process for handling grass and vegetation complaints, particularly for vacant or bank-owned properties where a timely response might be difficult. The existing ordinance language, found in a different section than initially searched, allows for enforcement. The township plans to add a vendor to the fee schedule in the new year to handle property cleanups externally, ensuring better financial tracking. Bidding out this service is also an option to maintain transparency and fairness.

Township Joins Multi-Municipal Study on Emergency Response Services

The township is considering joining a joint emergency response study with six other municipalities and Westchester University through the Council of Governments (COG). This study aims to address rising costs and operational efficiencies for fire and EMS services. The estimated cost for the township's participation is between $10,000 and $20,000, not to exceed $25,000. The first invoice is not expected until 2027. The board voted to approve joining the study.

New Comprehensive Plan Draft Praised, August Vote Anticipated

The township is developing a new comprehensive plan draft. The plan is intended to guide future development and decision-making over the next 10-20 years. The draft incorporates economic information and aims to engage the entire community in the conversation. Board members expressed strong approval of the draft, commending its creativity and thoroughness, and suggested voting on it in August. The current comprehensive plan is from 2015, and state regulations require updates every 10 years, making the current process timely.

East Scotian Renews Verizon Franchise Agreement Through 2031

The township is re-establishing a franchise agreement with Verizon for cable services, a standard process renewed every five years. This agreement allows the municipality to collect a percentage of revenue from the operating infrastructure of telecom companies within East Scotian. Despite a decrease in traditional cable revenue due to streaming and Wi-Fi, the agreement remains a necessary component for municipal revenue capture. The proposed ordinance for this renewal is 129-B-2026. The agreement will extend through 2031.
