Duxbury Acquires Six Kingtown Way Property for Affordable Housing Development
The Affordable Housing Trust is set to close on the purchase of a 24.8-acre property at Six Kingtown Way on August 4th, 2026, for $462,500 plus settlement fees, using funds from the affordable housing trust. The land, currently classified under Chapter 61A agricultural use, includes 40,000 sq ft of prime land, 11 acres of cranberry bogs, 10 acres of residual land, and 2.9 acres of undevelopable land. The town exercised its statutory right of first refusal in September 2021 after a private buyer, Watermark LLC, expressed interest. A subsequent lawsuit by Watermark LLC was resolved in the town's favor by the Supreme Judicial Court in June 2026, confirming that landowners cannot retract their notice of intent to sell to defeat a municipality's option under Chapter 61A. The Affordable Housing Trust's mission is to build affordable housing for Duxbury residents on this parcel.
Duxbury to Distribute Comprehensive PFAS Water Information with August Water Bills
The Town Manager provided an update on the plan to inform residents about PFAS in the town's water. A comprehensive notification, drafted by the water department and Apex consulting engineers, will be sent out with water bills in August 2026. This notification will include current PFAS testing levels (2024-2026), the town's actions taken, and its plan of action. It will also address what residents can do, highlighting the existing outdoor irrigation water ban enacted on May 5th, 2026, to reduce demand and limit the use of wells with high PFAS concentrations. The town is voluntarily providing this information, not legally required to do so. The Select Board requested town council review the document to ensure it doesn't inadvertently expose the town to liability. Discussions also involved the efficacy of home water filters at current PFAS levels and the town's ongoing well testing schedule.
Windsor House Inn and Restaurant Approved for Change of Manager
The Select Board unanimously approved a change of manager for the Windsor House Inn and Restaurant. Jason Cool has replaced Matt McQuillin as the general manager. McQuillin is now managing the establishment's Boston location. The board noted Cool's six to seven years of prior management experience, deeming it sufficient. The Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission (ABCC) requires such approvals from the Select Board as the local licensing authority.
Copeland Family Foundation Donates $7,500 to Duxbury Animal Shelter, Underscoring Long-Term Support
The Select Board accepted a $7,500 donation from the Copeland Family Foundation, Inc. for the Duxbury Animal Shelter. Animal Control Officer Eddie Ramos expressed deep gratitude, highlighting that the Copeland Fund has been the shelter's largest donor, contributing over $100,000 cumulatively since the shelter's construction 21 years ago. This consistent support has helped offset operational costs, enabling the shelter to provide services beyond what its $8,000 annual budget would allow, and maintaining the facility's excellent condition. The donation was accepted unanimously.
Duxbury Select Board Endorses E-bike and E-scooter Safety Guide Amidst Public Safety Concerns
The Duxbury Highway Safety Committee presented a guide on e-bike and e-scooter safety to the Select Board.
