Resident Urges Council to Consider Alternate Routes for Traffic Congestion

Eaton presented a route that involved taking 200 West to 200 North and then building a new road over 39, acknowledging that this would disrupt some residents. He urged the council to consider his suggestions when reviewing future designs.
North Alley Activation Project to Enhance Downtown Lighting and Aesthetics
The town council is moving forward with the North Alley Activation project, which began in February. The project involves activating the north alley at 20 West Main Street, following similar activations on the east, south, and west sides. It is integrated with a lighting and electrical project. The Downtown Danville Partnership initially sought funding from the RDC, but legal counsel determined it should be a town project, leading to funding from the town's operating budget with potential reimbursement. The project will include new light poles that match existing ones. The initial phase will cover from 36 to the first alley, including an H-stand pedestal, and aims to improve lighting. Future plans include extending the project to Clinton Street for further lighting expansion as funding allows. The alley will not be open to vehicular traffic and will feature two ballards. Parking access on the north side of 20 will remain available from Clinton Street. The project is part of a multi-year plan and aims to expand the square's lighting to zoning district boundaries.

Employee Promotion, Insurance Renewal, and Committee Appointments Approved
The council acknowledged the promotion of Hunter, an employee of the water department, to Assistant Superintendent of Water after he successfully passed his distribution license exam. Additionally, the council discussed and approved an insurance renewal, moving from Astra to Travelers due to a significant cost increase from Astra. The renewal with Travelers will result in a savings of approximately $58,000, with an additional $5,000 increase for abuse and molestation excess coverage. The council also decided to continue retaining Thornberg and having School as bond counsel, noting their satisfaction with past work and the need for consistent expertise. Appointments were made for the fire station committee and the public safety committee, with council members Greg and Mr. Gerald appointed to the fire station committee, and Mr. Gerald and Mr. Dod appointed to the public safety committee.
