Town Council Considers One-Year Extension for Cape Community Arena Group MOU
The Town Council is considering extending a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Cape Community Arena Group (CCAG) for one additional year, until August 31st, 2027. This extension is necessary to allow CCAG to proceed with the planning board approval process for their proposed permanent open-air ice arena adjacent to the Gold Crest Fields. The current MOU, originally entered into in 2024, will be replaced by a lease and operations agreement prior to any construction commencing. The council previously discussed the project during a workshop, and no concerns were raised by council members regarding the extension. The project aims to design and secure approval for the arena, with construction estimated to begin in spring 2027. CCAG presented their business, operations, and phasing plans, including site and aerial perspectives, during the workshop. Community members expressed interest in the project's impact on the community garden and overall town infrastructure. The town will retain ownership of the property, with CCAG operating the arena through their nonprofit group, similar to the Falmouth ice arena model.
Melissa Newsom Appointed as Permanent Town Clerk
