City Council Passes Ordinance Regulating Personal Transportation Devices, Emphasizing Education Over Enforcement
The council held the third and final reading of an ordinance to amend chapter 76 of the Municipal Code concerning bicycle regulations. The ordinance will rename chapter 76 to 'Personal Transportation Device Regulations' and update it to include regulations for personal transportation devices. Concurrently, chapter 77, 'Skateboards,' will be repealed. The ordinance aims to provide a framework for direct messaging and education campaigns regarding acceptable and unacceptable uses of these devices, with the potential for an enforcement mechanism if continuous problems arise. The goal is to ensure the safe use of outdoor spaces, not to issue tickets to minors. Urban Renewal Revenue Division Ordinance Approved for Final Reading

The REN Multifamily Project Approved for Second Reading, Adding One Story for Active Adult Living
The council reviewed the second reading of an ordinance to rezone approximately 5.78 acres of property from KMFSM to KMFSM/PD1. The property, to be known as The REN, is located north of Southeast Ashworth Road and east of Grand Prairie Parkway. The rezoning allows for an additional story on the multifamily development, increasing the total unit count to 80 units targeted for active adult living. This change is consistent with the Kettlestone master plan, and staff recommended approval.
