Economic Development Team Reports on Business Outreach, Volunteer Efforts, and Project Updates
Elizabeth Huff, Director of Economic Development and Tourism, provided an update on the team's activities, including business retention and recruitment visits, hosting businesses in suites at Constellation Field, and a tour of the Freeport. The team conducted 35 business retention visits and 56 business recruitment visits, received 112 RFPs, responded to six, and had one site visit. A successful volunteer event at Imperial involved moving 24,000 bricks for the installation of sanitary sewer lines. Updates were also given on the Apparail project, town square sponsorships and visitor numbers, and the Lakepoint development. The department continues to promote city news and events through social media.
Sugarland Development Corp Approves Funding for City-Wide Corridor Improvements
The Sugarland Development Corporation (SLDC) board approved a resolution to fund landscape and hardscape improvements, fountain rehabilitation, and drainage improvements along major corridors in Sugarland. The project will utilize funds from two Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) projects, CTR2501 and CMBB2605, totaling over $594,000. Improvements include landscape bed rehabilitation, colored stamped brick patterns, drainage enhancements, and rehabilitation of retention pond fountains. The project also aims to restore landscaping along US Highway 59 following the completion of the Razor River Bridge project by TxDOT.
