City Approves New Insurance Services Agreement with Hagen Hamilton, Securing Cost Savings
The council approved an agreement with Hagen Hamilton Insurance for insurance services. This agreement restructures the compensation for the insurance agent, moving from a commission embedded in the premium to a separate fee structure. Hagen Hamilton proposed invoicing their services at 8% instead of the standard 10% commission, resulting in a cost savings for the city. This new arrangement is part of a five-year agreement.
Waterfront Development Agreement Extended for Romano Properties LLC
The council discussed an amendment to an exclusive negotiating agreement with Romano Properties LLC for the development of the waterfront property. The developer requested a 60-day extension to finalize their development proposal due to the complicated nature of the site, including its legacy history, proximity to the river, and various constraints. The council approved the extension.
Police Station Construction Contract Amendment Discussion Tabled
The council discussed an amendment to a construction contract with Howard S. Wright Construction for the public safety building (police station). Howard S. Wright is requesting an early work package release, including demolition, earthwork, structural concrete, steel, doors, hardware, underground plumbing, and electrical scope. This aims to lock in subcontractor pricing amidst a volatile market. The full Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) proposal is expected on June 10th. The council ultimately decided to table the discussion to a later date to allow for more information gathering and expert consultation, specifically with an owner's representative, David Lince, and to ensure compliance with notice requirements for special meetings.
