Southern Hills Pool Opening Delayed Due to Construction, Weather, and Material Shortages

The City Council discussed the prolonged delay in opening the Southern Hills pool, which is part of a 270-day project. The delay is attributed to factors including price increases for equipment, extensive renovations requiring chiseling out the entire Olympic-size pool, significant rainfall impacting concrete pouring schedules, and competition for concrete trucks from other major projects like the Jimmy Davis Bridge. Despite these challenges, the pool is designed to keep water in and running, and will remain open through Labor Day. An opening date is tentatively set for two weeks from the meeting. A temporary water park is also being set up for children at Southern Hills. The pool's Olympic size and depth will be maintained, unlike other pools which have had depth changes.
