Sedona PD Board Hires Attorney for Disability Retirement Case, Discusses Vacancies

The Sedona PD local PSPRS board meeting discussed and approved the hiring of Nicholas J. Cornelius, Esquire, as the board's attorney for the accidental disability retirement application of Sergeant Nathan Dorfman. The board conducted an exhaustive search to find qualified legal representation, contacting various resources and ultimately finding Mr. Cornelius through a referral from the Wickenberg PSPRS board. His qualifications, experience representing other PSPRS boards (Prescott Valley, City of Prescott, Yavapai County), and fee structure were reviewed and deemed acceptable and in line with current city attorney costs. A sample contract was provided for review, and upon approval, the process to engage him would begin. The board also discussed upcoming vacancies and future meeting agenda items, including the process for new recruits and the need for an Independent Medical Examination (IME) service.
