Highway 19 Project Continues with Major Progress and Grant Support

The Highway 19 project is in its second year of construction, with significant progress being made. Paving is ongoing between Main Street and College Drive, and also on Highway 59 towards the Redwood River bridge. The contractor is prioritizing the completion of the Main Street intersection to allow for its reopening, which is expected in several weeks. At the Bruce Street intersection, major utility work is underway, causing temporary closures until completion. The project is supported by a $15.4 million federal transportation grant.

Band Shell Concerts Temporarily Relocated Due to Nearby Construction

Planning for a new band shell is in progress. However, the current band shell will continue to be used this year, with exceptions for specific weeks due to disruptive construction noise near the bridge, particularly when contractors work into the evening. During these periods, city band concerts will be temporarily relocated to the area between South View Elementary and the middle school, with parking encouraged at the district administration lot. Attendees are advised to bring their own seating. This temporary location will be in effect until nearby road construction is finished.

New Aquatic Center Nears Completion, With Late July Opening Anticipated

Construction of the new aquatic center is advancing well, potentially ahead of schedule. The concrete surfacing for the deck is expected to be finished this week, followed by final grading, dirt work, fencing, landscaping, and seating installation. The opening is tentatively planned for late July, though this is yet to be confirmed. The old aquatic center remains open until the new facility is completed.
