City Council Approves $135,000 Local Match for Airport Runway Project

The council considered a resolution to guarantee grant match funds for a runway resurfacing and lighting systems replacement project at the airport. The total project cost is estimated at $5,407,300. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will cover 95% of the costs, the Washington State Department of Transportation (Wash.Aviation) will cover 2.5%, and the city is responsible for the remaining 2.5% local match. If approved, the city will receive $4.8 million from the FAA Airport Improvement Program, $365,000 from the Airport Infrastructure Grant, and $135,000 from Wash.Aviation, totaling $5.3 million in grants. This leaves a local funding requirement of $135,000. The staff recommended approving the resolution to guarantee the $135,000 local match and accept the grant offers. Train Depot Security Cameras Delayed, Parking Issues Raised

Ron Johnson and Terry Scrutney addressed the council regarding issues at the train depot. Ron Johnson discussed the delay in installing security cameras due to the installers not being licensed contractors and the need for a permit, which has put the camera installation on hold. Terry Scrutney highlighted a problem with vehicle towing for individuals parking overnight at the train depot due to a lack of designated parking. She explained that volunteers are authorized to notify Northwest Enforcement but are instructed not to guarantee ticket avoidance or direct parking. Scrutney requested guidance and assistance from the city to address the parking issue and prevent further towing incidents.
