Herndon Town Council Meeting: Honors, Proclamation, Zoning Updates, and Community Concerns Addressed
The Town Council meeting included acknowledgments and announcements. Mayor LeBlanc honored Stephanie Almquist for her 27 years of service as a principal in Fairfax County Public Schools, highlighting her impact on students, families, and the community. The Mayor also read a proclamation recognizing June 2026 as LGBTQ Pride Month, emphasizing Herndon's commitment to inclusion and support for the LGBTQ+ community. Town Manager Dan Hoffman thanked staff and volunteers for their work on town events. Councilmembers also shared comments, thanking educators and expressing support for the LGBTQ community and various town initiatives. The meeting included public comments on topics such as the potential for a bike race, the closure of the Kids and Parents Engage (CAPE) program, concerns about crime downtown, and the prolonged absence of Councilmember Nyla Alam. Two zoning ordinance text amendments were approved: ZOTA 2601 to establish signage standards in the Herndon Transit-Oriented Core (HTOC) and ZOTA 2602 to increase the maximum size of caretaker and security guard residences to 1,500 square feet. Resolution 26G34 to withdraw consideration of a zoning ordinance text amendment related to casinos was also approved. The consent agenda, items 8A through 8G, was approved unanimously.
