Douglas City Council Approves Tax Rate Ordinance and Consent Agenda
The Mayor and Council approved the second reading of Ordinance Number 26-1234, which sets the property tax rate for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2027. The tax rate remains the same as the previous year at 1.0783 per $100 of assessed valuation. However, property owners may see a higher tax bill if their property's assessed value has increased due to new construction or other factors. The ordinance was declared an emergency to meet the county deadline of August 17th for submission. The council also approved the consent agenda, which included value engineering proposals for the Douglas Municipal Airport Fence Project and a utility easement for Southwest Gas Corporation, as well as a resolution designating the finance director/treasurer as the city's chief fiscal officer. Finally, the council entered into an executive session to discuss the possible purchase or lease of real property parcel number 409-27-002.
