Updates Provided on Water Tank Design, Lift Station, and Regional Treatment Plant Projects

The council reviewed updates on several water and wastewater projects. The South Plains water tank design has been finalized with a winning concept featuring a lion and honeycomb. The low bid for construction has been received, and a notice to proceed has been issued. For the waterline project, design has commenced with Crist Engineers. Lift Station Number Five has seen a cost increase of approximately $1.5 million since the last estimate, partly due to added scope and exploration needs in flood mitigation areas. The Slidell Regional treatment plant is progressing, with Crist Engineers, who also engineered a recently toured plant in Hot Springs, leading the design. Easements are still being gathered for Highway 5 relocation, and a funding decision is pending for the Plan Efficiency project.

Wastewater and Water System Operations and Maintenance Reviewed

The council discussed the maintenance and operation of wastewater and water systems, including booster pump stations and lift stations. Evan Jasper, Pumps and Controls Manager, presented on the daily and quarterly inspections, remote monitoring via SCADA, and the importance of these systems for water pressure, volume, and wastewater transport. He also detailed the functioning of lift stations, alarm systems, and cybersecurity measures for their monitoring software. The discussion also touched upon the maintenance responsibilities and costs associated with individual household pump systems.
