Budget Adjustments Approved for Wastewater Truck Debt and Professional Services

The council discussed budget adjustments for the upcoming fiscal year. Specifically, they noted that the wastewater vacuum truck debt, originally planned to be paid off in 2026 with a $240,000 allocation, can now be paid off in 2025 due to revenue generated in 2025. Additionally, $143,000 needs to be moved from capital asset equipment to professional services other for essential tasks like exploration, geotechnical digging, and mechanical/electrical drawings for the master plan, which were not initially budgeted.

Updates Provided on Water Tank Design, Lift Station, and Regional Treatment Plant Projects

The council reviewed updates on several water and wastewater projects. The South Plains water tank design has been finalized with a winning concept featuring a lion and honeycomb. The low bid for construction has been received, and a notice to proceed has been issued. For the waterline project, design has commenced with Crist Engineers. Lift Station Number Five has seen a cost increase of approximately $1.5 million since the last estimate, partly due to added scope and exploration needs in flood mitigation areas. The Slidell Regional treatment plant is progressing, with Crist Engineers, who also engineered a recently toured plant in Hot Springs, leading the design. Easements are still being gathered for Highway 5 relocation, and a funding decision is pending for the Plan Efficiency project.
