Sycamore Township Gas Aggregation Expected to Offer Savings Amidst Utility Rate Changes

An update on gas aggregation was provided, noting that Duke Energy is increasing distribution charges. Duke has also changed its gas procurement process, now settling gas charges based on market rates plus an additional surcharge. The current aggregated gas rate is approximately $0.59-$0.64 per therm. The township is confident that their gas rate next year will be equal to or below the current rate, while Duke's rate could potentially double. The board authorized the administrator to sign a new gas aggregation agreement if the price is below the current aggregated rate, aiming for a rate of $0.55 per therm, with the new agreement expected to take effect in late summer.
