Capital Funds Allocated for Sidewalk Repairs, Catch Basins, and Water/Sewer Improvements
Ordinance 2026-19 was introduced for adoption, appropriating $67,500 from the capital improvement fund for various township improvements, including $25,000 for sidewalk repairs and $25,000 for catch basins. These funds are part of the annual maintenance program based on priority and condition. Ordinance 2026-20, a water and sewer utility capital ordinance, was also introduced, appropriating $113,000 from the water sewer utility capital improvement fund for various improvements.
Capital Improvement Bond Ordinances Introduced, Ambulance Funding Separated
The council introduced Ordinance 2026-23, an amended version of Ordinance I1, striking line J to be considered separately. This amendment involves a bond ordinance for various capital improvements, removing the ambulance for the Verona Rescue Squad from the main ordinance due to council member conflicts and the doctrine of necessity. Councilwoman McGrath no longer has a conflict, allowing her to vote. This amended ordinance will be presented at the next meeting. Ordinance I2, a bond ordinance for water and sewer utility improvements, appropriating $2,725,000 and authorizing $2,588,750 in bonds, was also introduced. Ordinance I1, a bond ordinance for various capital improvements, appropriating $4,563,000 and authorizing $4,442,000 in bonds, was read into the record.
Detailed Design Elements Proposed for Verona Streetscape Project
The presentation of conceptual designs for the Verona Streetscape project included detailed discussions on design vocabulary, such as paving options, curbing, lighting, benches, trash receptacles, street lights, bicycle racks, and plantings. Specific recommendations were made for materials and styles to enhance the character and aesthetics of Bloomfield Avenue. Alleyway designs and the potential for public art installations were also explored. The project aims for a cohesive and visually appealing streetscape, incorporating feedback from various stakeholders.
Updates on Sanitary Sewer, Water Well, Pump Station, and River Bank Stabilization Projects
Updates on several utility projects were provided. Bids for the Derwent sanitary sewer trunk line repairs have been received, with an award recommendation expected at the next meeting. The I-Bank continues to review the UV disinfection system and microscreen projects. The Fairview Avenue well project is set to mobilize in early June, despite minor material delivery delays. The contractor at the Clarish dry pump station will remobilize with two to three weeks of work remaining. The Peekman River Bank stabilization contract is nearing final processing and close-out, with an expected reduction in the final contract value. Lynden Avenue project is proceeding with tree request reviews and plantings scheduled. Dot Terrace, After Gloway, and Summit Road are expected to begin construction in early June. Fairview Avenue and Personette Avenue signalization by the county is nearing completion.
Grove Avenue Redevelopment Plan Adopted by Council
The council discussed and passed Ordinance 2026-17, adopting the redevelopment plan for 251 and a half Grove Avenue. The discussion included edits to clarify language regarding central air, prohibitions on basements, maintaining building height at 45 ft, and specifying the front property line for developer engineers. The ordinance was passed 5-0.
