City Authorizes Interoperable Radio Agreement with Highland Park and SMU
The City Council authorized the City Manager to enter into an agreement for interoperable radios for public safety departments (police and fire) with the Town of Highland Park and Southern Methodist University. This agreement allows for communication between the city's radio system and the university's separate system through different levels of patching, enhancing public safety coordination. Both the Town of Highland Park and SMU have already authorized this agreement.
City Approves Final Payment for New Fondren Public Safety Training Facility
The City Council considered and approved a change order and final payment for the new Fondren Public Safety Building, which will serve as a law enforcement training facility. Chief Mathis expressed deep gratitude to the council and residents for their commitment to public safety. The renovated building at 5620 Fondren includes a break room, defensive tactics training area, exercise equipment, firearms training facility, bunk rooms for emergencies, property and evidence storage, and a six-lane firing range. The final change order totals $231,500.40, and the final payment to the contractor is $345,743.11.

Teresa Hook was recognized for her retirement after over 30 years of service to the city, primarily in equipment services and warehouse operations. Her contributions included purchasing, transaction logging, audits, inventory management, and handling the auction process. She was consistently described as accurate, flexible, dependable, professional, and helpful, earning her the Employee of the Year award in 2006. The city expressed gratitude for her dedication and wished her well in retirement.
City Council Approves Sanitation Staffing Extension, Park Borderstone Funding, and Meeting Minutes
The City Council approved the consent agenda, which included extending a pilot program for labor staffing in the sanitation department with People Ready to address labor shortages. The extension is requested up to an additional $160,000. The council also approved FY26 capital funding for the Borderstone program in various parks (Burleson, Carruth, and Curtis) to allow for earlier ordering of supplies. Finally, the minutes from the May 19th City Council meeting were approved.
