Twinsburg Schools Urge Caution on Further Property Tax Reforms in House Bill 504
The board discussed House Bill 504, currently before the Ohio legislature, which proposes further changes to property tax reforms. While acknowledging homeowner concerns about rising property values and taxes, the school district expressed caution due to the ongoing implementation and impact of recent reforms. Additional changes could create uncertainty for school funding, financial forecasting, and long-term planning. The district submitted testimony urging legislators to allow more time for evaluation before implementing further changes. Community members are encouraged to learn about HB 504, contact their state legislators, and voice their concerns to ensure the continued strength of public education funding.
Twinsburg High School Class of 2026 Celebrated for Extensive Academic and Athletic Achievements
The Twinsburg City School District celebrated the academic and extracurricular achievements of the graduating Class of 2026. The report highlighted numerous accomplishments, including over $5 million in scholarships awarded, 52 graduates continuing to higher education, 32 entering the workforce, and two joining the military. Significant academic distinctions were noted, such as Suma Cum Laude honors for 72 graduates and over 1,400 advanced placement and college credits earned. Community service hours totaled over 20,817. Athletic teams achieved district championships in girls' soccer, volleyball, basketball, and softball, with soccer and basketball teams reaching the state's top eight. Other athletic achievements included a boys' soccer district championship, a state bowling tournament qualifier, and state qualifiers for cross country and track and field. The report also mentioned ongoing improvements at Tiger Stadium, funded by permanent improvement funds.
Twinsburg Schools Propose Student Fee Increases and Flat Rate Athletics Fees Amid Budgetary Adjustments
The Twinsburg City School District is proposing significant changes to student fees for the upcoming school year, including a 10% increase to academic clubs and activity fees, and the implementation of a flat fee model for pay-to-participate athletics. High school athletics will have a flat fee of $250 per program, and middle school (RBC) athletics will have a flat fee of $125 per program. The family cap for pay-to-participate fees will be eliminated. Additionally, tuition for the general education preschool program will increase from $2,700 to $3,000 per year, and the IP program for peer models will increase from $2,350 to $2,500. These adjustments are necessitated by the failure of a recent operating levy and aim to maintain fiscal solvency while offering quality student opportunities. The district has also identified potential expenditure reductions by not replacing several positions, including a maintenance supervisor, an art teacher, and an instructional assistant, and by reducing a central office administrative position, totaling approximately $480,000 in savings for the 26-27 school year.
School District, City, and Fire Department Conduct Successful Emergency Bus Exercise
The school district, city, and fire department collaborated on an emergency bus exercise held on May 29th. This training was deemed critical for ensuring preparedness, student safety, and effective emergency response. Matt Strickland, the business manager, was thanked for organizing the event, which involved a tremendous collaborative effort and provided valuable lessons for strengthening emergency plans. Tracy Abbott also provided support, and the high school drone club and community focus documented the event. The exercise underscored the importance of partnerships in maintaining safety.
