Resident Urges Stronger Data Center Regulations on Energy, Emergencies, and Decommissioning
Sarah Pinter discussed the significant increase in peak electricity demand anticipated by PJM, largely driven by data centers. She highlighted that PPL's service territory expects a much higher demand growth than other regions. Pinter urged the board to amend the data center ordinance to ensure on-site energy generation does not harm the public. She recommended requiring Tier 4 generators, prohibiting auxiliary generators from augmenting primary power, and treating other energy generation systems (solar, wind, etc.) as separate uses subject to their own regulations. Pinter also stressed the need for emergency management plans to address potential power outages and the impact on residents, including heating/cooling shelters and support for medical equipment. Additionally, she called for emergency response plans for data center-specific issues like electrical and battery fires, emphasizing containment of suppressants and the need for robust decommissioning plans to prevent abandonment and economic hardship. Residents Propose Comprehensive Amendments to Data Center Ordinance
Residents Jiren Wagner and Sarah Pinter presented detailed suggestions for amending the Sutera Township zoning ordinance concerning data centers. Wagner outlined requirements for noise studies, vibration control, lighting standards, water impact assessments, wastewater management, and decommissioning plans, referencing ordinances from nearby areas and model documents. Pinter focused on energy resources, advocating for Tier 4 generators, proper regulation of energy generation systems, and robust emergency management plans for power outages and data center-specific emergencies like fires. Both emphasized the need for the township to implement stringent regulations to protect residents and the environment. [cite: 706-1055]
Sutera Township to Honor Veterans with Large Banner for America's 250th Celebration
Commissioner Connelly discussed Wendy's idea to display flags honoring township veterans and military personnel on light poles. Due to the lack of a traditional 'main street' and the spread-out nature of the township, the idea evolved towards creating a large banner celebrating America's 250th anniversary, featuring the names of veterans and service members. This banner would be displayed at community events like National Night Out, Labor Day fireworks, the 9/11 chicken barbecue fundraiser, and potentially a Veterans Day event. The process for submitting names will be formalized with a designated email and drop-box, with Wendy volunteering to assist with formatting. The goal is to get it right for the 250th celebration and then potentially add more names to subsequent banners. [cite: 2476-2626]

He received several awards, including the Medal of Heroism. His handler, Corporal Bloss, expressed gratitude for the support of the department, commissioners, and community throughout JT's career. JT will live out his retirement with his handler's family. A replacement K9 is expected to be sworn in soon. [cite: 26-254, 292-294, 298-301]
Sutera Township Board Debates Stricter Data Center Ordinances Amidst Resident Concerns
The board discussed proposed amendments to the data center ordinance, addressing concerns about setbacks, noise, vibration, lighting, water usage, wastewater, decommissioning, and energy resources. Residents presented detailed suggestions based on ordinances from other municipalities and model ordinances, emphasizing the need for stricter regulations and environmental protections. The board acknowledged the concerns and is working on a revised ordinance, aiming to balance development needs with community interests and legal constraints. They also clarified that data centers can currently be located in mixed-use zones by right but are working to define specific areas and regulations to manage their impact. A discussion ensued regarding the potential for other uses, like warehouses, in mixed-use zones and how setbacks would apply. The board is committed to thorough review and public input before any final decisions are made. [cite: 385-1725]
