Storm Lake City Council Approves Sewer and Water Rate Increases Effective July 2026
The city council approved the third reading of an ordinance to adjust sewer rates and an ordinance to adjust water rates, both effective July 1st, 2026. The sewer rate increases are estimated at $4.86 per month for fiscal year 27, $4.23 for fiscal year 28, and $4.37 for fiscal year 29, intended to cover maintenance, repairs, and avoid future large increases. The water rate increases are estimated at $12.17 per month for fiscal year 27, $14.21 for fiscal year 28, and $12.89 for fiscal year 29, recommended by the Water Ad Hoc Committee to gradually increase rates and avoid a large jump during new water treatment plant construction. City Council Addresses Rising Safety Concerns Over E-bikes and Scooters, Schedules Public Input Session

Storm Lake City Council Adopts Formal Public Records Request Policy and Fee Schedule
The council discussed and approved a new formal policy for public records requests, also known as FOIA requests. The policy outlines the designated custodian, the request process, examination of records, and fees for requesting and delivering records. It exempts the Storm Lake Police Department, which has its own separate policy. Bolton and Mink Selected as Lead Engineering Firm for Water Treatment Plant Project

Council members cited Bolton and Mink's more thorough presentation, clear accountability for errors, and perceived teamwork during the presentation as key factors.
